The paintings in my series World on Fire focus on the intertwining of perception and reality. Dimensionality, representation and the relationship between painting, photography and digital imagery are key themes. This series of paintings was created in a response to my own anxiety about meaninglessness and the profound strangeness of reality.

The same figure, based on images of my wife, appears time and again. Unlike traditional portraiture these paintings are not meant to relay any knowledge of her specifically. Instead sunglasses and hats often hide her face, distancing the viewer from any type of intimate connection with her. She is intended to represent anyone and everyone.

We are limited to only really understanding our own experience, unable to fully grasp what it is like to be someone else. For me, this underscores the critical importance of kindness, empathy and love.
